New buddy icon February 22, 2006

Using a photo of baby as the buddy icon in IM is what young parents usually do. I’m not an exception.;-)

The old buddy icon has been in my GAIM (MSN/Google Talk) and Skype for several months. Yesterday, Taotao got several new photos taken. So now it’s the time make a new buddy icon:

It was taken in our living area.

A bug of Gmail February 22, 2006

Sometimes there is a “Reply-To” field in email header. That indicates the mailbox(es) to which the author of the message suggests that replies be sent (quoted from RFC 2822). All the email clients I used before respect this suggestion and take it as the reply to address(es) in reply. But Gmail does not. A workaround is to use Thunderbird via POP3. I have reported this bug to Google.

Several bits about last two weeks February 21, 2006

It’s a little sad that wordpress.com was blocked in the Mainland of China. Fortunately, I still can access it in my office.

• Taotao did not come back to Shanghai with us when we came back from Ningbo at the end of Spring Festival. So my wife and I can enjoy several days of life. We spent a week end and several evenings on watching the first season of “Desperate Wives”. I would say it’s a good soup opera. There are many interesting quotes from it.
• Went out having a dinner with my wife in the Valentine’s Day.
• Taotao came back to Shanghai in the last weekend. So life is full of happies and funs again! A child is gift from God. It’s really true!
• The last thing is a bug of NetworkManager I found yesterday in Ubuntu Dapper. After one day of investigation I gave up. I reported it first on the Ubuntu forums. The response is very fast. In a few minutes, one user confirmed my issue and filed a bug for me. And in three hours, it got fixed. It’s wonderful!

wordpress.com居然被封了/wordpress.com is not accessable from China February 7, 2006

初一在宁波通过电话线拨号想写个blog，发现上不去，就觉得有种不祥的预感。昨天回到上海，家里的宽带还是上不去。被封无疑了。:-(
