Gmail’s label is much more power than topic folder in ordinary mail client. However, Gmail is lack of a feature useful for me and maybe others, which can be found in ordinary mail clients.

When using ordinary mail clients, it’s very easy to mark read all mails in one folder, or delete all of them. However, it’s hard to mark read all mails with one specific label or delete them. The quickest method I found is to do it one hundred mails in a batch. When mark read/delete about 10 thoundsands mails, it’s a big pain.

I have submitted a feature request to Gmail and see what will happen.

Since Gmail gives you huge storage space, you’re not supposed to delete any email. That’s Gmail’s philosophy. :-)

I know. But I’m afraid my gmail will be full in two years. Currently I just need the mark read feature.

Applying an action to everything in a label
You can apply the same action to all messages in a label or section of Gmail (Inbox, Sent Mail, Spam, Trash, etc.), in just a few steps. Use this feature to archive all mail in your Inbox, apply labels to every message meeting certain criteria, delete all messages in Spam or Trash, or apply a filter to all relevant messages in your mail.

Here’s how to take an action on all messages in a label or section of your mail:

1. Open the view (Inbox, Sent Mail, etc.) containing the messages on which you’d like to take an action.
2. Click Select: All along the top.
3. Click the link that says Select all [number] conversations in [current view].
4. Select the action you’d like to take from the More Actions… drop-down menu.

Here’s how to apply a filter to all relevant messages in your mail:

1. Create a new filter.
2. Before clicking Create Filter, check the box next to Also apply filter to [number] conversations below.
